Colebrook, NH

Someone overfed Mittens.

I lived in Weare in the 90's; there were lion pictures in the local rags every year, despite Fish'n'Games ongoing denial of a population.

Ct. has been denying these ever since I can remember. I saw my first one around 1973 in the NW corner of the state while bow hunting, told the local game warden literally told me I was crazy.
Fast forward to 2017 and a couple got hit by cars, pictures in paper and on the news, guess what they still denied it.
I personally know a retired state trooper who was told to knock off reporting them every time he saw them, he worked 11-7 and saw them almost every night up in the NW corner.
We aren't that far from N.H..

Sounds like Litchfield county

Next time they deny it, tell them you will shoot the next one you see. Then you’ll get the “it’ll be a $4000 fine” respond with “how Is there a fine if they don’t exist?!?!” They don’t deny it here in VA like they used to

A couple friends lived over near New Hartford and saw one dragging a small fawn across the road one night while driving home on their bikes, said it never even spooked as they got close. That is about half hour drive from Sharon.
Also if my memory is right there was one hit by a car way south of there , down near Monroe on the Merrit parkway, that one made the news. DEP still denies it.
I told the game officer that I would shoot the next one I saw and turn it in and he couldn't arrest or fine me because we don't have any in our state. Just got a pissed off look.

Rumor had it back in the mid 70's that N.Y. and Ct. got together and released some in the Amenia - Sharon area but would never own up to it because of liability if someone got hurt. They did it to try and control the way out of whack deer population ( very little hunting and no natural predators). Only bow hunting at the time. Now they have moved around and the coyote population and black bears have exploded and the deer herd is going down hill rapidly.

O.P. sorry about the high jack.

AZGFD doesn't try to hide them, we have a season from August through May. You can spot and stalk or run them with dogs. There is no cost for the tag but you have to have a valid hunting license.

Mountain lion, cougar or puma

Don't know the owner of the camera. Someone who works with my wife does and sent it to her because they knew I'd be interested. Colebrook is so close to Canada you can smell the poutine.

FryeGuy--I came up close to one on the Blue Ridge Parkway just outside of Afton, Va. Reported to the game warden and was told I was mistaken and it was probably a Bobcat--tried to explain that as a practicing veterinarian I think I could differentiate between a 15 to 20 pound bobcat and a 150+pound,3 foot long body and 2 to 3 foot tail of a dusky brown animal. Nope, they insisted, they don't exist here, however, the locals all had seen them over the years while out hunting, seems that the powers that be recently admitted that mountain lions MAY be in the state but according to them they represent no danger. Riiiiight! Don't think I want to be on the App Trail alone and come face to face with a hungry one LOL
