Coastal Carolina Gun Club, Camp Lejeune ,NC Feb 2020

Hello everyone,

I was just inquiring to see if anyone plans on attending the Crystal Coast Gun club 600 match in Feb aboard Camp Lejeune NC? I plan to attend, and this will be my first match. I am quite ignorant to the rules and general flow of this type of competition. Any suggestions would be great. I do not care about my score and only hope to meet some good people, be safe, and have fun. I simply want to ensure that I abide by the etiquette that I am sure I do not know. If someone from this forum plans on attending, I would love to link up with you prior to, or at the match. I would be happy to pay for the education in lunch or something similar. I am currently on deployment, but will be back in late January.

Thanks everyone and I hope you all enjoy the holiday seasons.

Your best bet is to get in touch with AC Webster who runs the matches. His contact info is listed on the Coastal Carolina Rifle Club webpage. The rules and procedures are pretty simple, not all that different from the USMC qual course other than the match is all slow fire prone. Be sure to preregister and let them know you’re new. They will likely try to put you with someone that can help show you the ropes of the match process. If there is something you don’t know, just ask...most of the competitors are pretty helpful and friendly. Stone Bay is a great range and offers all the joys of a North Carolina winter. So be prepared for temps ranging from 0 to 80 and light East/Noreastern winds of 2 to 40 MPH. Main thing is you show up, bring a gun and ammo, and have a good time. PM me with any additional questions, glad to help however I can. Also, check out the North State Shooting Club up at Camp Butner. It’s near Durham and is another great range full of outstanding people.

DR1586, Thank you for the information. I will be shooting the F-T/R class. I have a custom Rem 700 .308 built by PWS in Quantico. I will be shooting hand loads. I have a light bullet weight due to my slow rifle twist. I plan on shooting SMK 155. Still working up a load. My scope I feel is going t be the next thing I upgrade. Right now I have an old MK-4 3.5-10. I know that is all I really need, but I think it is time for an upgrade.

Bring cash. At least $150 or so as you will be using it to pay for your match, the pit pullers as well as your NRA membership if you do not already have one. The matches are a lot of fun and AC and his crew are extremely welcoming. Your rifle combo will be perfectly capable. Have fun, I wish I had the time to make this one as I would be able to be more helpful.

AC Webster and I run the Coastal Carolina Rifle Club matches aboard Camp Lejeune at Stone Bay. We frequently have and welcome new shooters at our matches. We will squad you with someone that can help you and guide you through match procedures. You will need to contact AC Webster at least 3 weeks in advance so that we can arrange for a visitors pass unless you are active duty or have a DOD ID card also so that we can arrange to have enough target pullers for everyone attending the match. You will need enough money to cover match entry fees and $20.00 a day for a target puller. I look forward to meeting you and having you shoot with us, contact and match info can be found on our website.
