IMHO, CMP treats F Class like a red headed step child. At the Talladega 600 and the Spring Classic they only give an award to the 1st place shooter. But the other disciplines get 3 places. This shows their lack of interest in F Class. We pay the same entry fees. There's usually about 15 F Class guys at the matches which exceeds their 5 man minimum for awards.
So is it me thinking wrong, or does CMP really not care about F Class?

If they didn’t care they wouldn’t have F-class at all. The CMP has been traditionally XTC (more specifically service rifle) oriented for a century. They stepped up as the NRA was in a downward spiral and they are still learning. It’s a big organization with lots of changes being made, but they are willing to listen. So draft a letter/email to their competitions division and express your concerns and offer a solution.

Exactly email Brian Williams and he will listen. I talked with him in Phoenix at the western games he is always ready to listen for ideas and ways ahead. Talking with him they would love to see more f class shooters show up to matches especially to camp perry.

You are thinking wrong. They are very interested in all Highpower disciplines as well as pistol and smallbore and air rifle. They have only recently added the mid range and long range prone and F class and are not fully squared away like they are in the other games they have been running for years but Brian W. and Sara R. and the rest of the crew in the office are working to set up the system to support F class and sling probe mid and long range. They have been very responsive to inquiries and suggestions.

Don't recall any 3 place awards in any of the matches I shot in Sling and Midrange. And they didn't get the Red Carpet treatment as well, no one did.

I hope I'm wrong, but from what I've seen....

"Recently " ?

I've been attending their two big matches per year for 3 years.

Did you finish second or third? Or, just like most other matches you've shot, you just want to complain about it?
If you want the perfect match then you find a range, start a club, do all the leg work, be there all day the day before making sure things are right and being there before the sun comes up on match day to make sure everyone who has the opportunity and mindset too can be happy.

FYI...I finished 2nd.
I am also the match director at my club with monthly matches. I arrive 2 hrs early to set up...BY MYSELF.
I give awards to the top 3 finishers.

FYI
You obviously feel you are the supreme MD because all I've seen from you on matches is complaints about them.
BTW, congratulations on being "FIRST LOSER".:rolleyes:
You've obviously missed the intent of my post. I just think CMP could do a better job at welcoming F Class.

But you chose personal insults.
Do you do the things I do for a club?

In short...BITE ME

You need to come to Perry and attend the board week awards where you can sit for a few hours and watch the same person (ppl) receive award after award.

I don’t fully understand how awards are decided by CMP. Might be in the rulebook but I don’t really care enough to look. Some events provide place awards beyond first, some only the winner is awarded. I’ve been part of both scenarios as a match winner, category winner and finishing 2nd or 3rd…

I don’t get too bent out of shape about it. CMP by and large goes out of their way to accomodate everyone who wants to shoot and they listen to the competitors to improve opportunities year over year. The amount of disciplines added in the past 5 years alone is impressive.

Every organization could "do better", look at the NRA as an example. But the CMP is trying, and while not perfect they have stepped up when others didn't. The way to handle this is the same as your attendees would address you about your matches.

1.) Document the concern/compliant.
2.) Document anything that is in conflict with their published rules/procedures
3.) Identify a solution or best practice.
4.) Put it in the right hands.

They may still do nothing, but I assure you that they will listen and at least review what you have to say if its done in a tactful manner and in the best interest of the shooting sports.

Also a little short sighted to say cmp doesn’t care about f class when they were the first ones to announce the new f class production to f class equipment list. I will take cmp all day long and twice on Sunday for all match sanctioning. If more than 30-40 f class shooters would show up to lr nationals at camp perry cmp probably get more vested in f class. As others said cmp picking up the slack due to nra lack of support. I think a lot of the older shooters still hold alot animosity towards cmp and the NRA break up that happened years ago.

How big of a red carpet do you need? What type of welcome do expect for being F class over being a sling shooter in the Mid range or long range match?

They host the match, give you the firing point and the awards are listed in the bulletin ahead of time if there are any.

I shot in what may have been one of the first Monthly Midrange match at Talladega in 2022. MD and RO had never run a prone only match and had never heard of unlimited sighters. I just felt great being able to shoot 600 on the E targets on my way to work in Houston. Put up a decent score with the iron sighted match rifle and took second to an any any rifle with a 591-19x. No handshake after the match, no trinket for the "I love me wall". Just a good ( but cold day) with others who like to shoot too. I have come home from Perry with some lovely CMP precious metal medals too. always felt well taken care of by the team at Port Clinton. (Except Mark Johnson but he is gone now and a whole 'nother thread...)
