close range optic

When I was at the height of my AR building frenzy, I built an AR pistol. Now that ATF is being pushed back on all of it's oppressive interpretations of the law I am thinking about making my AR pistol into something useful (read butt stock or brace). I tried 2 red dot sights and was totally unimpressed. One was replaced by SIG and is due here today i will give it one more try. But would like some type of conventional rifle scope but with a field of view like looking out the bay window. Is the any such thing? No batteries, no red or green dots, 2-6 power maybe a little more, or maybe just a straight 6 power, but a large field of view and quick target acquisition. Ive used LPVO and want something like one that has more field of view and less critical eye relief. I don't know if this scope exists, let know what works for you.

I built an SBR a few years ago. I found that my problem with most of the 1x6 and 1x8 scopes are big and heavy, especially when mounted high enough so you don't have to hold your head sideways to look through it. And that is even more of a problem (to me at least) when you are mounting it on a short and light AR. The one power field of view is great especially if you can keep both eyes open. There is a LOT of difference in the field of view between 1X and 2X.

The ideal perfect wonderful scope for me is the 2.5x8 Leupold VXIII with the Boone and Crocket reticle they stole from somebody. It is a 1" scope. I sighted it in at 200 and the hash marks matched my load really good. It is my favorite scope and I look for another constantly, but they never surface.

If I had to buy one today, I would be tempted to try the Sightron S1 1.75x5x32 on Sightron's site for $239. weighs 12oz and is a 1" scope. I've never seen one in person and the field of view may not suit you. Sightron 1.75x5.

Or here it is for $189 from Cameralandny on Ebay. 1.78x5 Ebay

That Vortex above weights 17.6 oz.

Vortex 1x6 HD Razor. I have used them for years through work, as well as competed in 3 gun. Very good scope for 5yds to 500 yds. Another good one was the C-more 1x6. A Good friend, Todd Jarrett, sold me on one of them. Great reticle and amazing fields of view. You can see your fingers wrapped around your handguard.

Specter DR. Has illuminated 6 moa red dot @ 1x and 1.5 moa dot and ballistic reticle @ 4x, long range crosshair reticle. Not a variable but switchview. Very large 32mm lens. The glass is stunning. I think I remember seeing it mounted on M4's carried by Canadian troops in shitholistan.

I have a couple of Leupold VX Freedom 1-4 scopes on ARs that work very well.
