clicky ejection

Had a chambering done today in a 30-284, i had some used 6.5-285 brass that was necked up to .284, i necked it up again to 30 loaded a few and no matter the charge weight im getting a clicky ejection on the bolt handle. It lifts fine.
Its a BAT action never experianced it till now. Maybe the brass web???
The brass was purchased used, so who knows. All brass was full lengthed resized BTW.

I don't talk bump shoulder, it is part of the sizing of the case. Mike your should of a fired case and after you size it, the diameter should be around .002 less than fired. the shoulder should be set back .0015- .002. If you have this your die is seat perfect. You can make or buy a die to reduce the base size. If you anneal and pull the base down when needed they will go a long time. The click will end.If you are using a Panda action you may still have a little... jim

Shoulders are moving in .002, shoulder bump is around .002. It chambers fine after resizing after hard ram on press, but clicky on ejection yet. New brass on way, see how it goes. The primers are tight BTW.

Ya diffently the base area, the shoulders are being push back plenty.

This will also cause ejection problems. DO NOT push the sholder back to far. .001 to .003 is plenty. .005+ will cause problems...to much headspace. That can get down right dangerous.

Obviously, the caliber is a wildcat, and there are probably no SAAMI specifications to guide the reamer manufacturer so that his work will coordinate with that of the die manufacturer. When working on a project like this, for myself, or a friend, I prefer to work backwards from a sizing die, if I can come up with fired cases, measuring cases sized by the die, and adding the clearances wanted to come up with the reamer dimensions. Since work hardening increases spring back, I prefer to use cases that have been fired and FL sized a number of times for this. In your case, given that it may be hard to come up with used cases in your caliber, a well used .284, or 6.5 x .284 case would work, since the primary concern is getting the body dimensions right. I know that this is of limited utility, given that your barrel has already been chambered, but I thought that I would explain how it can be done, for the benefit of future projects. I hope that starting over with new brass solves your problem. If it does not, you may need a custom die. Hornady and Neil Jones are good sources for that.

Wildcat? Kinda not entirely i guess just a 6.5-284 necked up to 30. Ptg made the reamer based of 6.5 lapua brass so a 6.5 284 redding full length bushing die with the neck opened to .341 should be suffeciant one would ASSUME!. I agree working backwards is best solution.

What are you referring to? The .284 has a rather steep (for a factory cartridge) 35 degree shoulder angle, and not a lot of body taper. The only improvement that I am aware of is the .284 Shehane in which the body diameter was increased to pick up enough capacity to get to a node, at more reasonable pressures.

Boyd, The Shehane did pick up on capacity, but it stopped the bolt trust. A .500 base pushing a lot of pressure on a .473 rim. I remember the 30-30 test when they improved the case and fired it out of a 94 without the locking lugs... no thrust.....jim
