What is a good distance to keep from the Barrel Face to the Bolt face? Its a Defiance with no Bolt Nose recess... lug is flush with the bolt face.
Also its on a target rifle.

I have a micrometer head mounted in a sleeve that measures from the shoulder to the headspace gauge that makes it easy to get precise numbers when setting headspace. I headspace to .0015 and end up being able to just feel the gauge when closing the bolt after the barrel it tight. Works pretty well.On a side note to this, what do you guys set your headspace to assuming you have .002" of crush. Just barely tight on a go gauge or do you put a piece of scotch tape on the back and try to account for that .002 crush fit?
If that doesnt make sense im sorry still trying to learn.
Yep.... wont try that again. It was thick at the web...I try to get it to within .002 by measurement and then double check with go and no-go gauges after assembly. Russ, putting a barrel on without go/no-go gauges? Bet you were using an old piece of brass weren't you?
