Cleaning today keeps the carbon away.

Well, not every day but every 100 rounds fired per rifle. I have been using my neck cleaning method for several years now abandoning any bore brush method as inferior.

I pre make the rolls from non tearing synthetic shop towels, add a couple of drops of my favorite solvent and rub some JB on the business end. Slow rpm turns of the shaft in my cordless drill does the trick. No more carbon or developing hard deposit ring.

Barrel is a Remington CM 7mm-08 with 1786 rounds fired. It gets 100 shots a week added on average. Had it out shooting yesterday.

IDK, looks like a decent amount of copper along with heat checking and carbon ring or heavy stain line.

I agree with J Frank, and suggest Bore Tech Copper remover on some patches. I would not worry about that heat checking, just keep an eye on your target results.

I remove carbon ring with JB on a bronze 38 cal brush mounted in the last section of an old 3 peice rod. I always run 3 or 4 patches of Kroil through the bore after using JB, to get all of it out.

Guys, that last photo was just prior to my neck cleaning method. That bit of carbon ring showing is gone for the moment.....it'll be back this coming week.

As for the copper streaks and erosion? The copper can stay. It's a 50 dollar garbage plinking barrel. I don't care. It shoots fine. My target result requirement is hearing a bang or clang on steel gongs. Big bore plinking at it's finest. Period.

I tried different jags before settling on the home made slotted one. The P-H alligator jag tended to slip and lose grip. The knurled works well but requires a wrap and peel removal every time. The short flat slotted jag forms an oval shape roll....nope. The use of wood glue to close up the ends of the folded square patch.

Wrapping up a bronze bore brush will work but wear out (bend) the bristles fast.

I do use this method to keep my better barrels free of the.....ring.
