CLEANING STAND / VICE - WHAT'S THE BEST ONE OUT THERE?

I’m looking for a REALLY GOOD cleaning stand for my rifles. Something I can use to clean them and work on them. I’ve been looking at the Tippton “Best Gun Vise” and it seems to be a reasonable product in the way it’s laid out and the adjustments it has. It’s made of plastic though which doesn’t impress me (I’d rather have a really good metal one). But it may be more substantial than it looks.

Does anybody have any experience with these Tippton “Best Gun Vices” units? Are they just flimsy molded plastic, or are they fairly solid? If most of the parts are solid plastic they may not be too bad.

Does anybody know of a better cleaning stand? I’m trying to stay in “about” the $200 to $250 range. I see Hyskore makes one they call their “Master Gunsmith Vice” or something like that. Don’t know how solid that one is either.

Anybody found one that they really like?

I have the non-tilting model shown below. I like it, and it has served me well for many years. It holds the gun securely and the front support fits both narrow- and wide-foreend stocks. Without a rifle, it will move around the bench if you knock it, but I like the fact that it is light enough so you can easily lift it overhead (after use) to store on a high shelf, out of the way.

I give the Tipton a thumbs down. The proper way to clean is with muzzle end lower than chamber......other than adding a block underneath, the Midway contraption won't let you do this, and on a bench gun with a 3" fore-end the muzzle is way uphill.
I built one out of wood (oak) that accommodates 2 guns, one a hunter class (2.25") and one a VFS (3"). A shooting buddy also made me a clone of the Sinclair cradle ,all stn. stl.. I have also, simply placed my elbow bag on top of my rear bag and cleaned right from the rest set-up. Hoppes makes a nifty cradle for ~ $20, which, according to the picture in their catalog, allows cleaning the proper way...muzzle down.

BTW......Be sure to cover your scope lenses when cleaning.

I have the Tipton vice and just purchased the newer best vice as it has the sliding fixture to use while cleaning AR type guns, like the newer one better.
