Cleaning Rods??

For the past year I have been using Pro_Shot cleaning rods on my 6mm and 6.5mm barrels. They are very stiff and do not flex at all with a tight patch. Whose cleaning rod do you use, why do you think it is best?

Also I have been using nylon brushes instead of brass. In a recent Precision Shooting article it said that nylon brushes are not stiff enough to remove hard carbon deposits. Do you really unscrew the brush once it exits the muzzle, so you won't hurt your crown?

Do you use a pierce type jag or a wrap around?

Whose cleaning patches do you use, do you prefer round patches or square patches?

I use Dewey and Proshot and have one Carbon fiber I have not used yet. I like the Proshot patches with a Boretech pierce style jag. I do not take the brush off at the muzzle and use brass brushes. You will have to use an abrasive if you use only a nylon brush.

I have a pair of Dewey's that I've been using for over ten years with no problems at all. I bought a pair of long stainless ProShot 30 calibers and really like them too. Now I can't decide which I like better.

I use bronze brushes mostly from Sinclair. I have seen a difference in bronze brushes from different places. Don't know why, they look the same, but I bought some 6MM from Hart and they were terrible. The brissles fell off and the brush didn't last long. Those brissles that find their way into your chamber suck! I have tried nylon brushes and don't think they clean as well. Patches are again mostly from Sinclair, or ProShot. Both are good. Either Dewey or ProShot pierce jags, whichever fits best with the patches.

I will not buy another Bore Tech rod. I bought a pair when they came out, and the coating came off in no time. I called them, emeialed them, and finally was told they do not stand behind the coating and will not replace it. They would replace the rod portion for a fee. NO SIR! Never again.

Dewey, bore tech and sharpshoot'r,the wipe-out people)

I like them all...

but prefer the coatings on the sharpshoot'r and dewey's

I recently switched from Dewey and BoreTech rods to carbon fiber. They flex a bit but are lighter and strong. I have a couple that I cut off the handle and put some heat shrink tape at the cut off end. Having used wooden barrel rods for black powder cartridge shooting I find not having the weight of the handle to be a help to making more precise entries into the various orifices we put cleaning rods into.
