Cleaning rod recomendations?

Looking at replacing my Dewey 42" because it hits the butt stock do to the large handle and loosing some coating because of it. Whose rod do you recommend? Cant seem to get ahold of IVey anymore. I was looking at boretech proof positive rimfire rod.

Any suggestions?

My friend just bought some boretech rods because he could not get Ivy’s. they seem pretty decent to me. Handle is a little bigger than my Ivy’s but not as big as a Dewey.

Could someone measure the handle size on the bore tech?

BP1 what boretech rod did you get? Is it the proif positive or the other onevi think iscthe v stick.

The Ivy’s are great...got one, the Cadillac of RF rods are the hardened, melonited ones Jerry Stiller made up....got one, he may have a couple left.

Not home right now to look but I got it from midway and it has a orange handle. I got the 36” rod.

Anyone know what diameter the proshot 22-26 rod is or would the 20cal rod be better?

The 2 I have which are the 42" long both measured 0.201 this is the 22-26 rod. I use them on a Match 54 and H&RM12 with a M.Werks guide I wish they were 48" or even 44"

I got the longer dewey. Patch is at the barrel end, handle at the butt. Push it up to chamber guide and it clears tuner and 7" tube. Use a leather stock protector.

Dewey's handle can be ground round on a bench top grinder. I did it to a chamber cleaning dewey for my center fire.

I put a deep "flat" on my Dewey handles, clears the butt stock fine and still gives me plenty of grip/feel of what the rod and patch/brush are doing. I have Pro-Shots also, they work great with that small handle and a fine finish on the rod itself .

I got looking again and it seem the cheek area of the stock at the high point is higher than the bore itself.

Its looking like the only way to clean it with a 1 piece rod it to pull it out of the stock. I dont want to have to do that. :(

I have Dewey rods I have been using for 20+ years. Pro shot SS rods are impressive slick.

The most impressive rods I have seen in a while are the Montana Extreme

Most of the rods mentioned in this thread bend. They are virtually all far more flexible than an Ivy.
If you put them through a match grade SS barrel, your chances for damage go up exponentially.
Ivy’s have been difficult lately, Don’t overlook the carbon Tipton’s.....stiffer than all these, gotta check for properly aligned ferule.

With a good bore guide there should be much problem as there isnt much pressure going through a rimfire barrel. I cant use a Tipton unless its 48" as the handle is too large.

Ive tried getting ahold of Ivy for over 6 months and nothing. I think Im going to try a Proshot.

You would not believe how many match barrels get destroyed by rods and it has zero to do with guides......most of them flex, right into the throat and/or lands.
