Cleaning rod hole

Is the cleaning rod hole modification worth it on the 1022 receiver, seems to me you still have to remove just as much hardware to use it:confused:

You can get a muzzle bore guide and push the rod to the chamber, screw on the brush or eyelet and then pull the brush and wads from the chamber to the muzzle. The muzzle end bore guide will help protect the muzzle and crown.

The best way to ruin a bore and crown is to drag a cable through the bore. That is even harder on the crown and bore than a bore snake. Stay with a one piece rod and a muzzle protector and pull the brush from the chamber out.

The cable is plastic coated the only metal touching the bore is the brass tip which is pushed through from the breach out the muzzle the the brush is pulled through. I've been cleaning my benchrest rifle after every match this way for the last three seasons without damage of any kind. If you don't like this type then use a bore snake they make them to use on 10/22.
Also Patch worm http://www.patchworm.com/ makes a pull through cleaning system with a plastic cord for just pulling patches through works very good.

Using ANYTHING but a 1 Piece Coated rod from the action end is similar to putting a "Band aide on CANCER "

The pull thru are O K for a Quik pass - If U believe they are the Ultimate UR drinking 2 much Kool Aid

I never did like "Kool Aid" and I work with metal. Plastic can destroy metal because it gets embedded with all the stuff that is in your bore and the dust and dirt in the air. I don't like coated rods and prefer stainless over brass and bronze. The coatings pick up the same kind of dirty deposits that plastic covered cables and bore snakes do and no amount of wiping them will prevent it. The rods are a little better because with a bore guide it is more difficult to ride the bore or wear on the muzzle. This is just me and if you are happy using a different tool that seems to work for you then keep doing what you are doing. I clean my guns after every trip to the range and run a dry patch down the bore before every shooting session. I don't want to drag any dirt through the bore.

FWIW I drilled mine. Easy to do, and no downside I could see. I DID NOT want to clean mine from the muzzle. A side benefit is now I can bore sight when I mount a new scope on my rifle.

The barrel on a 10/22 comes off easily enough. I'd rather pull the barrel, put it in a padded vise, clean from the breech end and reassemble. Less work than disassembling the receiver to use the drill hole.
