Cleaning equipment for a 22 rimfire?

I'm in the market for cleaning rods and jags for this new 22 LR I purchased, so I'm looking for opinions and what to do or not do on cleaning procedures for this rifle.

I'll most likely use the Montana xtreme rimfire blend cleaning solvent unless otherwise told not to for a really good reason, such as it'll trash the barrel or the likes.

I'll 2nd the Ivy & add 1. The Pro Shot 20 cal rod is my main rod & prefer it as it is shorter than my Ivy which I prefer.

I like this rod with 1 1/2 round patches myself as I feel like the fit is perfect. A snug fit without having to stress the rod going through.
I heard a fella cleaning this weekend & heard some wicked screeching as it seemed it was too tight. However, he won the match so...
I also have Tipton rods that are carbon fiber but use them a lot less as the handles are to large for some combs to get it & your fingers. Otherwise excellent rods.

I use a modified Proshot, a tapered solid end with a button on. one solid piece

James,

This is a link to Eric Uptagrafft's instructions for how to clean a .22 rimfire: http://www.uptagrafftllc.com/tech-blog.html

In case you don't know him: Eric is a longtime member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and two-time Olympian. I have shot with him several times and, judging from his scores, his cleaning methods seem to work pretty well. :)

Here's another take on cleaning equipment and methodology from another rimfire expert: http://www.rrdvegas.com/rimfire-cleaning.html. It's long, but a good read.

I use a .22 Dewey coated rod. I can't say it's better than the others recommended above but it works fine.

The main thing about the jag and patch is to find the right combination of jag and patch size to get the right fit in the bore -- more difficult, in my experience, than with centerfire rifles. I use a pierce-style jag similar to the Pro-Shot with Sinclair 1 1/8" patches. I also use a Parker-Hale wraparound type jag (bought it from Champion's Choice) with Sinclair 1 1/4" patches. Both combinations work well.

As far as a rod guide, I use and recommend this one: http://www.mwerksllc.com/boreguides.php. Jeff makes them really well and you'll need to know which brand of rod and the exact rod diameter when you order. I called Jeff before I ordered to make sure I did it right. Might be worthwhile to call him before you get a rod to get his recommendation.

Thanks Dave,

Today I ordered a Ivy rod with his turned down jags, I went ahead and got a few brushes from him just to keep from placing another order elsewhere.

I called and ordered a Mwerks bore guide as well.

I should be good to go when everything arrives.

I have used several different set ups and found the Mwerks guide and Ivy rod best for my purposes. Iv might be a bit slow in shipping, but Mwerks is prompt.

For cleaners and 22's, you are not going to need a super duper copper cleaner since you will have little copper residue. You will, though, have a LOT of lead and more carbon residue than you might expect. At range, I use Butch's BoreShine or PatchOut and at home dedicated single purpose cleaners.

Is a 36" rod long enough when using the Werks brand of bore guide for an Anschutz 64 MPR with the 26" barrel?

Is a coated rod better or a SS one for the Anschutz barrels as well in terms of better fit, less chance of damage to the barrel or rod. I'm thinking the 20 cal size/diameter allows a bit more room for clearance, but need to be aware of any rod bow/bend correct??
