cleaning at competition

Me? Never. Did'nt put a rod through any of my comp guns all season this year.
Takes a little work to find a powder that will let you get away with it tho. ;)

Never have. But rarely are the competitions that I'm in are more than 30 rounds or so.

Also depends upon whether "sighters" are allowed or not too. WD

How often do you clean your rifle at a competition?

While the competition is taking place for a yardage? Never. Between yardages? Yes.

That means anywhere from 35 to 50 rounds down the barrel. Give it a good cleaning, then JB, then clean out the JB.

I just cleaned my rifle after shooting 54 rounds in the Berger SW LR Nationals. Today was a Palma, tomorrow two 20X1000, Sunday three 20X1000. Cleaning after each day's events is a few soaked patches with Wipe-Out Patch-Out and Accelerator, a short soak and dry patches till reasonably clean. After three days, I will clean it completely at home. Bolt is always cleaned and lubed after each day's firing. Works for me.

I shoot a 30br in short range benchrest. Now 30br's are known for being able to go a long time in between cleanings, however I went beyond that last year. I shot in the IBS Texas state match last year, and I never cleaned the two days I was shooting. I shot a total of 191 rounds without cleaning. Never more than 12 rounds in any 7 minute time frame.
The gun shoot good enough to place 4th over all.

I also heard that Jackie Schmidt shot his 250-25x and his groups for world record contention groups without cleaing in between also.

For me it depends on the gun.
In point blank BR with my 6PPC, I clean between every match relay.
For Varmint matchs where I am shooting a factory gun, I clean after the match is over. My factory gun shoots better dirty.
In 600 and 1000 yard Matchs I was cleaning after 100 rounds, but I think I am going to go longer. (I shoot Moly)

During an F Class tournament, never. Barrel ain`t worth owning if you can`t do that. Agree with the previous post that you have to find a powder allowing no cleaning, least carbon possible.

Lube the bolt after breakfast and after lunch every day.

That question is competition specific. Never for F-Class, XTC, or highpower prone. Not a benchrest shooter, but think they are the ones cleaning between strings.
