Cleaning a gun using moly bullets

O.K! My 243 WIN still shoots better than me, I practice a lot and I have my first club competition behind me.

Now, what advice can you all give me about caring for my barrel? I use only 105 A-MAX bullet and moly coated ones. How should I be cleaning my gun and how often?

I moly bullets only for my Savage .223; usually do so every time I hit the lottery ;D

Actually, some moly in the bore is desirable. I use my normal cleaning solvents after about 100 rounds, together with some JB, and end the process with Bore Tech Moly Magic. Not a big deal, but then it takes about a dozen shots until the accuracy returns.

Have a box of 175 MK with i think the Tubb moly finish is there any difference in cleaning the bore with these bullets

At our local club we shoot modified F-Class twice a month, from April to December. My Savage 6BRX does not get a barrel cleaning until the end of the season. I have yet to see a loss of accuracy before we finish when the snow is on the ground. I generally have 3 other rifles avalable for loan with moly coated bullets as well, and they too are not cleaned until we finish our season. None have shown any accuracy issues.

When I do clean in the winter, I use Butches solvent with patches only. I do have the luxury of borrowing a borescope, and if I see evidence of residual powder fouling forward of the throat, I will scrub with JB bore paste to remove it. Otherwise, I don`t bother.

Assuming properly coated bullets, you may not need to clean as often.

There are a gizillion threads on here about cleaning moly. I use Slip 2000 lube and wipe out bore cleaner. Yes if I clean it to much, I have to fire a few shots to season the barrel again.
