Clean or not clean ?

Hi all,

I bought a book by " Glen Newick" called "The Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy"
Now here is the question. On the 6mmbr site, there are various persons that swear by cleaning ur gun after every 200 odd rounds. In this book, they talk about cleaning after every 10 shots or so.
Now who does one believe, or does it just become a matter of choice?
I shoot a 308 Win stainless. Dying to get my hands on a 6BR though..

In my opinion let the rifle tell you when to clean. My wife's 6ppc likes a clean barrel to shoot it's tightest groups. I clean it after every string of fire which is normally less than 10 rounds. My 223 Remington likes a dirty barrel. It gets cleaned after the groups start to open up. That's somewhere around 30 to 40 rounds. The 6ppc is a 1-14 twist and the 223 is a 1-8 twist.

There you go. I am the same. I have guns that like clean barrels, but most perform well dirty. I clean after every day at the range as a general rule, but I never have to clean during a match.

I used my wife's 6ppc in two matches this past summer and cleaned the barrel after each relay the first match . That match I fired a 250 8 X, my first time ever to do a 250.We were shooting 200 yards in a internal bench rest match VFS, varmit for score ).The second match at 200 yrds. I didn't clean after each relay just to see if it was necessary. I dropped a point on every target and it was the last shot that went into the 9 ring.Needless to say I learned that was not the way to do it. Now the rifle gets cleaned after each relay. Hope this helps. John
