"Chuck Hawks Passes
For the past two and one half years Chuck has been battling stage four Pancreatic cancer. Early in the morning of August 23, 2021 he'd had enough and "slipped the surly bond of earth to touch the face of God." Chuck Hawks was an avid recreational shooter for over 50 years. In addition, he was a noted researcher, writer and professional photographer. Many of his photos are still being sold as picture post cards!
Chuck's shooting career started when he was selected to join his high school rifle team in his freshman year. He sold guns and outdoor equipment at the retail level. When in the United States Air Force he qualified "Expert" with both rifle and pistol and was invited to try out for the USAF National Shooting Team. Later, he taught a guns and shooting seminar for the local community college. As a Benefactor member of the NRA (USA) and a Complementary member of the National Firearms Association (Canada) he always supported firearm rights.
Chuck began writing about guns and shooting during his college days and founded Guns and Shooting Online in 1997. The website was his passion and he poured tremendous energy into it. He was intent on providing the latest and most accurate information to his readers to help them understand and appreciate the subject he enjoyed so much. This enthusiasm brought readers from around the world.
In addition to the website Chuck was passionate about Oregon Duck football, cats, airplanes, motorcycles and fast cars. Growing up in California instilled in him a love for the water. He enjoyed going on cruises and sailing. At his request his ashes will be cast out to sea--"Fair winds and following seas" forever."

I enjoyed reading his work. Talked with him a number of times. I called him once while I was serving in Afghanistan and he gave me and my friends free access to the paid side of his site.

Rest in Peace Sir.

My sincerest condolence's. I used to read his stuff all the time. He was a cool guy.

Reading his articles always adding that needed fuel and wind to my fire.
The shooting world has lost yet another great contributor.

God Speed and great sailing Chuck Hawks.

Sad for sure! I read his articles often, and had been a member for a time. Always seemed like solid information. Very sorry to hear this. Condolences to his family, and friends.

I know of the man but did not know him personally. I am sorry for the loss of a friend to those who knew him and loved him!

One of the greats in the history of online gun-centric information. Chuck's site has been a preferred source of information for a lot of us and helped to nudge many of us along in our journey. Legends never die. They become part of our collective consciousness and our history. Thanks Chuck. We appreciated you and still do.

I am truly saddened by this news. I have a lot of respect for him.
