Is there any real advantage to IR options on a chrony? And if there is, is there an IR option for the Gamma Master Shooting Chrony.? Will my shooting chrony help me find the best load for my .308 and my .243AI? If so, how do I use the information to come up with the best load? This is all pretty new to me, but i'm sure there are other's that need the same understanding to be able to become better at this game.."game" ? ....this is serious now that i've been bitten by the "smaller groupbug" lol
I really enjoy this sport and the fine people with a similar affliction. Please help educate us newbies...?

I bought the CED Millenium because of the IR screen option. I do most of my load development in the evening after work; that wouldn't work without the IR screens. I actually block ambient light to maintain a consistent condition for the sensors. I've used an Oehler and the CED; the CED screens were much less fussy. The new version of CED's screens are supposed to be even better. I shoot molyed .22 caliber bullets at high velocity on ranges that are dark,grass-covered) or light,bare earth) with no problems. The IR screens run on batteries as well as AC, so they can be used anywhere.

If you're interested in the CED, I'd recommend buying it from Jim Ristow at Recreational Software; he's great to deal with and he usually has a deal to throw in a few extra bits at no charge. While you're there, check out the Shooting Lab software - I think it's the best ballistics/reloading package available.

What do th IR screens do exactly? I am thinking of getting a CED Millenium for Christmas...

The IR screens supply the light the sensors need, and make the chronograph independent of ambient light - even in full darkness. They can be powered from an AC line or optional batteries. They insure consistent conditions, so velocities are more stable and reproducible.
