Chrony lights?

I see midway has led outdoor and indoor lights for alpha chrony. I bought 2 round puck led lights from home depot. The puck light has 5 LEDs per puck but my alpha goes crazy when I turn the lights on. Can someone tell me what the differnce is in there led lights and a battery operated led light.
Thanks Anthony.

AWLEAPHART,

I suspect that what you're seeing here is the results of AC current, essentially the light is flashing (too fast for us to percieve, but the chrono will pick it up) and that's what creates the wild results. With battery operation, your getting a constant light source which is what the chrono needs.

Kevin has the right idea. But it's the battery powered LEDs that are more likely the problem. To increase battery life, the LEDs are switched on and off at a high rate. The short duty cycle provides peak power over a short period. Too fast for the eye to detect but other electronic sensors will easily detect it.

Yup.

Have fun building your light set up. It will be good experience for you. :)

Good to see you, here. Love your articles on the practical riflery forum.

Not sure what you mean when you say "consistency and accuracy of the data is labratory" in this case. A consistent light source doesn't affect the bullet's performance. I see it as providing repeatable data not influenced by varying natural light.
