Chrome Moly or Stainless Steel

Bat Machine is making their actions in chrome moly and stainless steel. What are the attributes of each steel? Why would you choose one over the other?

Chuck

I shoot Douglas CM barrels with equal results as my SS barrels, and Rem. 700 blued actions are CM actions that are blued and I shoot alot of the Rem 700 actions. The best answer would be a mettalurgy search on Google.

Chuck,

stainless is harder to machine,,on the machines I gather) which makes it more expensive.

Stainless also doesn't have to be all oiled up, and there is no real worry about rust when you're shooting in the rain or don't get to cleaning off the fingerprints, etc. after a match.

If you have the loot, I would go stainless.

I don't think that stainless is any harder to machine. Some are easier to machine than others. I like stainless for some things and chromoly for others. If you have a chromoly receiver, but like the stainless look, just e-nickel your receiver.
