Chrome lined is not conducive to best accuracy but they do last longer. I don't use chrome lined barrels as I feel chrome lining of barrels is best suited for shotguns, not rifles. Even then, it can cause problems in lengthening forcing cones, etc. FWIWPlease give me your opinions on chrome lined AR barrels vs unlined. Which, in your opinion is better and why?
Corrosion control and longevity in a machine gun is what chrome lining is for. Please give me your opinions on chrome lined AR barrels vs unlined. Which, in your opinion is better and why?
This isn't any type of precision barrel or even a target rifle of any kind. And I'd never consider taking a good barrel and getting it chromed. It's an M4 carbine. I was just curious as to why most AR makers are chrome lining their barrels when they aren't full auto. Personally, I have a DPMS M4 that is not chromed, but my son just bought an upper that was advertised as triple chrome lined. Was looking for a consensus on pros vs cons. So, you go and have a precision barrel maker make a very expensive barrel for you and then you take it to the bumper shop and have it chrome lined? I'm not so sure that I would do that. If I were shooting 3-gun or a discipline similar to that--it might be a great idea. On the other hand, for a precision target gun, I don't think so. Just my experience with M 14 barrels over many years.

You can't just take a barrel and chrome line it. The chrome is a layer that changes the dimensions of the bore. Chrome lined barrels are meant to be chrome lined from the time they are drilled. This isn't any type of precision barrel or even a target rifle of any kind. NO KIDDING!! Do you think I don't know that? Look. I'm not thinking about chrome lining an existing barrel. I may not be a genius but not stupid either. I understand completely about inner dimensional changes should I be so stupid to try to add a layer of chrome in a bore sized already at .224". Obviously, that wouldn't be a wise move. You can't just take a barrel and chrome line it. The chrome is a layer that changes the dimensions of the bore. Look, you came here asking questions and made a remark about not taking a good barrel to have it chromed. I don't know you and don't know how much you know. I was trying to help, but figure it out for yourself. Nobody likes someone that asks questions and then commences to tell the person trying to be of help how much they know. That's a good way to find yourself without help when you do need it around here, starting with me. Good day!NO KIDDING!! Do you think I don't know that? Look. What I asked was which was better? Chrome lined or not?
Look.. Start at the top of the thread and read what I wrote and I challenge you to show me where I made any comment about taking a barrel to have it chromed... I really don't care what you think... I never was asking for ANY help... I merely asked what other people's OPINIONS were with a chrome lined barrel vs not chromed.. If you can't read I don't know what to say. If you read the reply, that a response was to the comment made above it. Which if you read it, seemed to insinuate I was buying a barrel and taking it somewhere to have it chromed. Like I said. Read the whole thread before you tell me I was asking you or anyone else whether I could chrome the bore of a barrel after the fact. I'm sorry if reading comprehension is a weak point on your part. As for your threat? Who do you think you are anyway? Just forget it. All I asked was an opinion pro and con to chroming bores on an AR... If you have no opinion on which is better chromed or not chromed why interject in the first place??I guess that means you know that it doesn't work that way. Congrats! You've been here a whopping 2 months and are already ruffing feathers. No skin off my nose, but you'll change your ways or won't like it here for very long.
You're a piece of work! I gave you my opinion and I didn't think I said anything to prompt your tirade toward me. I can read just fine, my comprehension is just fine and I can't find a threat in anything I have said. Perhaps you didn't like the answers you got...I don't know. But you obviously have a problem and should seek medical attention and leave guns to more stable people. --Mike EzellIf you read the reply, that a response was to the comment made above it. Lokk, this will be the last comment by me. First your opinion wasn't in reference to the question asked which was chromed or not. Which is better? Second, your condescending remark telling me that I can't chrome line a barrel that it had to be done during production was telling me I didn't understand the process like I was some kind of idiot. That gets my Irish blood up. Lastly, the comment about me being a forum newbe who won't like it around here very long tells me you are serving me with some kind of threat. Like I said before. I really don't much care what you think anyway. Maybe you should read the sticky about getting along vs trying to intimidate. Let this be the end of it. I didn't pose the question to get into a pissing contest. You're a piece of work! I gave you my opinion and I didn't think I said anything to prompt your tirade toward me. I won't forget it, but I certainly won't lose any sleep over it either. Like I said...you're a real piece of work if you took any of that from what I posted in response to your question. Let that blood boil some more. Frankly, I don't care if you can bite nails in two. Its good therapy and you obviously need that or meds. Sleep on it and come back and read my posts regarding your OP. How was I supposed to know how much you know or don't know and how was anything I said being anything but helpful and accommodating? Actually, I've seen the question posed many times about chroming an existing barrel, so why wouldn't I state that it doesn't work that way? If you took my reply as being condescending, you should get the chip off of your shoulder or grow a whole lot thicker skin. --Mike EzellLokk, this will be the last comment by me. Just forget I ever asked the question.
Please give me your opinions on chrome lined AR barrels vs unlined. Which, in your opinion is better and why?
Jim, please see posts 1,2,5 and 6. It doesn't pay to post on forums at times. You can't even try to help some people.Mike maybe I'm wrong, but CD Parker, not Paddyd made the remark about having a precision barrel made then take it to a bumper shop and have it chromed. I just think it was a misunderstanding maybe because you didn't see or realize it was somebody else who made that comment.
