My family has been doing this for 103 years now. Even through WWII. They saved up their sugar rations. My granddaughter is a 5th generation candy maker.

My buddy's family has an annual contest with another family to build the biggest and best gingerbread house. They compete every year in the weeks before Christmas. The finished products were absolutely beautiful. My buddy told me that they'd like to donate them but didn't know where/how.

A girl who worked for me did lots of charity work. She said, "let's take them to the battered woman's shelter". The location of the place is a well-guarded secret, but she took me there and we were permitted inside with the prized works of Christmas art. The director told me that I was the first male to have ever been permitted on the premise. Some of the gals just started to cry with happiness. I heard one say, "you see, people do care".

I was a bit overwhelmed by their sincere appreciation of this simple act. My office has been very involved in charity work for years. Helping those less fortunate than ourselves is the good Lord's way.
