Christensen Arms 300 Win Mag vs 300 RUM

Looking for a new elk gun that will give me some distance. I have a .375 Ruger that kicks like a mule and I don’t enjoy shooting it. My question is, how much more recoil is there between the Win Mag and RUM? I’d like the extra energy of the RUM but not if it’s no fun to shoot. What’s people’s experience?

"kicks like a mule..." = piss poor stock design. A proper recoil pad and a recoil reducer in the butt stock will fix your problem about 90% of the time. I have owned most of the 30 magnum rifles over the last forty-five years. The RUM seems to offer more recoil than actual performance increase over the 300 WM or even my FN Mauser in 300 H&H.
I would suggest going to a gun shop and shouldering various rifles. I found out that doing that with your eyes closed, shouldering the rifle, making the aim, and then opening your eyes is the best way to choose. If the barrel sights are pointing close to your eyes closed aim is the best answer.
A 300 RUM with a proper fitting stock and the recoil reduction items I mentioned would be the Hammer of Thor.

Kirby Allen in Montana built me a 300 RUM with one of his muzzle breaks that recoils about like my .270. But...that thing is LOUD! And I REALLY mean LOUD!
A couple of years ago I shot an elk using an empty drum as a rest. Forgot to put my ear plugs in and I think I did permanent damage. If you're not an idiot like me and wear hearing protection it's a super accurate round. And launching a 200 grain Accubond at 3200 plus seems to do the trick.

Stock design and brake both play a large role but for me 5'10" 170lbs no 375 is going to be fun to shoot. You will notice a difference in recoil between the 300WM and the RUM period. If you are recoil sensitive stick with the 300 WM.

I just happen to have a gorgeous .300 R.U.M. I want to sell that is very accurate and I already have loads for! I have not put it up for sale yet>>>but this is as good of time as any!
