chipmunk

No not the little rifle. Real chipmunks. You guys have as much fun with this as you want, but if anyone has a serious answer I'd sure like to hear it.
We live in S.E. Ohio, wife is driving to work at 5:30 AM today and has to stop the car for a parade of Chipmunks crossing the road in front of her, she said there were between 12-18 in the group crossing the road nose to tail. I've never seen a chipmunk in the winter (they hibernate) and I sure as hell have never seen 12-18 in a group.
WTF?

They probably got driven out of their den by a predator who probably had a belly full before the others left the party.

I would bet that there was a "HOT" girl Chipmunk or 2 in the that bunch,
and the boys are very interested!!!!!!!!!!!

That time of year........... ;D

I have a great memory of chipmunks. When I was a young boy, my father used to take me and my brother on this yearly fishing trip to a lake high in the mountains. Was a 6 mile hike into the lake at about 7000 feet. There was always chipmunks in camp. One day we were sitting around the campfire eating Chips Ahoy cookies (go figure ::)) and a chipmunk jumped up on the log next to me. He was just sitting there looking at me so I set a cookie in front of him. Believe it or not, the little son of a gun picked it up with his creepy little human like hands and sat right there eating it with us! He was just being one of the guys and hanging out. Must have sat there for over 5 minutes til he got his fill and took off. Coolest thing I ever saw from a wild animal trying to be human :)

I am just a little south of you (ky) and I have never seen that many together. But I don't think they stay holed up all winter.I might be wrong but I have seen a few through the winter.I think they come out from time to time.

No closed season on them in PA. It's great offhand practice in the off seasons. My .17MII tears 'um up. I get angry when people kill Rattle Snakes and I explain that they kill Chipmunks and Chipmunks always wait to sound their alarm when they are right under the log or rock I'm sitting on! Not good for my aging heart! They are destructive little buggers around or in your house!
