Cheek Rest

Gents:

I have a Savage LRPV that needs a cheek rest. I have been looking at the Karsten's rest, but I wonder if any of the strap on rests work very well. I don't mind drilling a couple of holes, but I would rather not do it if I can find a good alternative. It has an H.S. Precision stock.

I went ghetto/redneck with a Rem 700 VSSF that didn't provide the cheekweld that I wanted with the factory H-S Precision stock it features. I bought a (about $5 at the time) Uncle Mike's buttstock shell holder that slips on. I then cut a piece of fairly dense foam rubber, about 1/4" thick, about 3" wide, and the length just shorter than the length of the shell holder sleeve.

Slid it inside the shell holder over the comb of the stock, most of it on my cheek -- left -- side. Added a 2nd layer of foam after trying it out with just one. Then I used electrical tape to seal both ends of the shell holder and more importantly to prevent it from sliding around.

Not too fugly, and works good, and cost under $10, and no drilling required. Easy to remove, replace the foam, etc. too. And the stock doesn't show one mark.

I put electrical tape on some of my shotgun recoil pads so that they don't hang up during the gun mount when shooting clays. I have plenty!

I use Triad Tactical stock packs & stock pads. They work really well for me. I have 2 of the packs and 1 pad. They interchange rather easily.

I have several black hawk cheekrests that attach with velcro straps and they are the most comfortable thing to have.The part#:90cp09bk They are for ar-15's but they seem to work for most stocks and they are around 35.00 shipped.
