Chassis for Tikka T3X Super Varmint .223

G'day everyone, I want to put my Tikka Super Varmint into a chassis for range use - no hunting. The two options that I am currently considering are the Oryx and the MDT XLR. Price here in Australia is close so that's not really a consideration.

I like the heavier weight of the Oryx and the fact it takes AR pistol grips. However I am concerned about being able to clean the rifle. I know that the Howa 1500 in the Oryx means a bent cleaning rod but I'm unsure if that is because the Howa sits particularly low in the chassis.

Does anyone have a Tikka in an Oryx? If so is there an issue with bending the rod to clear the top of the butstock as there is with a Howa?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The cheek piece is removable, so not an issue. The XRS is a better option ( I didn't like the Oryx, but that's me)

I have 2 Tikka actions in aftermarket stocks. A 223 T3 in a GRS Bifrost. Brilliant. I use it for FTR occasionally. The Other is a 6.5 T3X in an MDT HS3 with a folding stock etc. Both very rigid platforms.

For range use on a budget then Oryx or MDT XRS, may be OK, but don't forget the Aussie built Southern Cross TSP-X chassis.

Cheek piece isn't the issue. Its the buttplate which is too high. With a Howa you have to bend the hell out of the cleaning rod to get it into the barrel. I'm wondering if it's only an issue for the Howa and perhaps other actions sit a little higher.

I looked at the SCSA webiste - no info on their chassis. Other websites have contradictory info on magazine interchangeability. Some say the Tikka version uses Tikka mags and other s say AI mags. It's almost as if SCSA doesn't really want people to buy their chassis. You would think they would put the relevant product info on their website. It's disappointing.

I had a HS3 many years ago. Great chassis. Wish they still made them.

AICS according to these guys

A local shooter had one of the TSP-X chassis and I was able to have a hands on with it yesterday. I liked it so much that I ordered one along with an MDT adjustable vertical grip, 20MOA rail, 2 mags, couple of poly picatinny rails and a few other bits and pieces. Rather than drop my Tikka T3 into it I'm going to get a Howa 1500 heavy barrel 6.5 Creedmoor (which is what the local bloke had) and shoot some long range matches. I might grab another one for the Tikka at a later date. Many thanks NZ_Fclass.

SCSA definately need to sort out their website and make the choice to buy their great quality products an easier one.
