Changing powder effect on node

I have been running H4831SC for my Berger 180s and 184s with great success but have recently decided to try RL-23 in the hopes of getting extended barrel life. The node on my current barrel is at 2825 with the 4831. I ran a ladder test yesterday with the RL-23 at 0.2gr increments covering MVs from 2810 to 2840 and did not see a node. it is reasonable to expect that if a powder burns differently, there might be a different effect on harmonics, resulting in a different node. Has anyone figured this out? Any suggestions are to roughly where i might find a node for RL-23 pushing heavy 7mm projectiles?

I switched from 4831 sc to RL23 and the node for my rifle is around 2850 with RL23. I also changed bullets though, moving from 180 Hybrids to 180 ELDMs. The Hybrids liked 2820. So my limited experience may not be helpful. As long as you don't have pressure signs I would not be afraid to go up though.

Yes, it's reasonable to expect their to be a difference in harmonics and this situation is why I've been using the QuickLoad app for a few years now, which helps with doing what you're doing . . . using a different powder and finding the node(s) for it.

Though it requires more detail than shown here regarding the cartridge and barrel, it looks like QuickLoad calculates the node for RL-23 to about .9 gr more than the H4831 you're using (maybe some pressure signs there as it's showing over max pressure) or 1.9 gr lower (there abouts, I would think) with a little lower MV at that lower node.

Thank you both. I thought that might be the case.
