Chambering a 7.62x39

I am working a deal for a PPC sixe bolt for a Remington shortaction. I have a spare Remington 722 that I would like to barrel to 7.62x39. I have a new take off SS 300 Short Remington Ultra Mag that I could chop the chamber end and rethread and rechamber. That you give it a .308 bore barrel instead of .311.

I shoot mainly cast boolits so sized them down would not be a problem.

I remember discustion about ruger mini 30's have chamber with a tappered thoat so one coud use either .311 or 308 size bullets. Is this internet legend or is it such a thing???

Who would have a reamer for purchase or rent to cut such a chamber? Would accuracy be greeatly affected??

Thanks in advance,

Centex Bill

#1. By the time you cut the chamber off of that bbl you probably won't have enough diameter to allow for rethreading and still have an adequate diameter torque shoulder . Pacnor offers a nut for the Remington that is like the factory Savage nut. This would probably allow you to use that bbl.

#2. Is the twist usable for your needs ?

#3. I am pretty sure that PTG offers a reamer for use with a .308 bore.
