Chamber insert concept

Has any one ever tried to make different Chamber inserts for a rifle barrel to change between cartridge with the simplicity of changing a choke tube on a shot gun?
If so what were the results.
What would be so hard about making a chamber insert to change between
Say
6.5 grendal
6.5 creedmore
And another 6.5-06
Just chang out the chamber insect and ready to pew pew..
It sounds simple.
But would it work, and why isnt it being done already

Because the insert would have to contain the throat and some rifling for the shorter cases. You'd never get this rifling/throat combination to line up and index properly. They did have .308 inserts for Garand chambers but they shot terrible and so they were discontinued.

Been tried, and still being done.

Most popular is probably a 22 LR barrel insert to convert your 45-70 to use instead of having two rifles.

Marbles, made whole line of conversion cylinder sleeves. Popular conversions were a 32 S&W or ACP to be fired in any of the 30 caliber military rifles as low recoil trainers.

Rimfire adapters for about any thing that shot 22, 25, 30 calibers.

Hers a decent article

They show up on gunbroker and such regularly, Numrich always seems to have a few.

There’s probably a reason they haven’t caught on in the last hundred years, just no fun.
The 22 sleeves for big bores can actually be competitive tho.

Its probably extremely cost prohibited.

Ive seen so many interesting videos. Maybe is a good question to ask Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons..
Hahaha..that dude has seen it all..i bet he would have the answer.
Is he a forum member, its a small world and hes a shooter..ya never know.
I was just curious thanks for the replies

I have chamber inserts for .455 Webley, .45acp and 9mm - all about 8" long -to fit a single barrel shotgun.
Seem to work OK.
The reason I had them was to develop reloads for those calibres as at the time I didn't have access to my pistols.
Daft condition on my FAC..

this thought crossed my mind
however,
it would be much more difficult than simply swapping barrels
easier to just have a barrel ready to change
simple thread alignment with interchangeable chambers would be so tight if a speck of dust got in there it would not be concentric to the bore or even screw in all the way causing headpsace or bolt closure issues
thereby necessitating loose threads
which in my book
is not something I will put my name on
----------
Someone else can patent it and try and make money off it
-----------
I would actually chance it more, to have extendable barrels extensions if you want a longer barrel
starting at 16 inch
