Chamber Brush

What size brush are you using to clean the chamber and throat area on a .284 win. ?

Do you really need to use a brush in the chamber in a centerfire rifle?

The throat gets brushed, if you use one, during normal cleaning process of the bore.

I use an oversize patch, lightly coated with mineral spirits and a pistol rod with an appropriate size jag that ensure a tight fit then rotate the patch in the chamber to remove carbon and other deposits. Then I use a dry patch. Seems to do a good job

I do once a season, clean the bolt lug recesses with a Dewey tool made for the purpose. It does a really good job of removing built debris in this area which is difficult to reach.

If I'm storing the rifle for the off season, after cleaning the bore and chamber as noted above, I rotate a patch of very lightly coated Hoppes gun oil in the chamber to prevent corrosion.

The neck/throat can usually be worked with the bore brush, but if you are very careful you can use an oversized brush or a patch wrapped brush to work that area. With any tools or brushes, you should always be very careful to avoid damage to the barrel.

When you can't find a purpose built chamber brush....

Take a look at the dimensions, and see if an appropriate rifle, pistol, back powder, or shotgun brush will suit you.
For example, your 284 WIN runs roughly 0.5" diameter, so a .50 cal brush works.

If you spin a larger one in a low speed drill chuck, against a abrasive wheel or grinder, you can take an oversized brush, like a shotgun brush, and make it into whatever you need. Same with Nylon and plastic.

With anything like this, it take a slow careful approach to get carbon rings or stubborn accumulations out without doing damage. A borescope comes in very handy for learning how much scrubbing to apply.

I use a .410 nylon brush wrapped with a patch.
Using a proper size bore guide helps keep your chamber clean when cleaning the bore
