Hello All
Looking for some advice...
I have a CG63 (Swedish target rifle built on a M96 Military Action in 6.5x55). I picked it up a few years ago for what I considered a very reasonable price for fun and informal competition (XTC or 300m issf).
I think the rifle is exceptional, but it's quite a pike and a poor fit for my 6'2" 155 lb frame (for reference my coat size is 38 long). Prone is manageable, but offhand and kneeling/sitting are very awkward. It could desperately use an adjustable cheek riser, adjustable LOP, and adjustable buttplate height.
I have a few options:
1. Get the stock modified. Usually I'm loathe to change a rifle config, but since this is a target rifle I'm pretty open to making it a more capable target rifle ... assuming it is well done. While it wouldn't be cheap, I presume a talented woodworker could incorporate an adjustable cheek riser and buttplate from something like an Anschutz Supermatch or xtc/Palma Rifle into the current stock. In the end, I'd have a one of a kind rifle that's mine - which is worth something...to me at least.
2. Just get a new stock and have it fitted to the action. Once again an Anschutz Supermatch or an older XTC stock could be a good donor - but I have no idea what it would take to have the action (small ring mauser) fitted ... and the odds of it turning out well.
3. Just get a different rifle better fitted to me. Certainly the easiest route, but getting a 3 position centerfire rifle that's ISSF legal won't be cheap. Since I'm a bit of a lightweight <thanks Crohns
> I'd be best suited in 6.5 or 6mm instead of the more ubiquitous (and punishing) 3 oh hate.
Anybody have advice - especially on options 1 and 2?
I'm most interested in option 1, however I'm a bit unsure of the hardware that is most appropriate and how to find someone that can do a great job.
Thanks!
Joe
