CFE powders question????

Lee Whitsel

I was testing some loads with CFE223 powders then I shot another batch right after that that was Regular powder Benchmark. My question is. The groups where much the same. But should you clean your barrel before firing other non CFE powders does it make any difference?

So do any if y'all incorporate this into a barrel break in just wondering? Initial load development?
Got me to thinking about initial load development.

Not trying to hijack thread just curious

Yup - regardless of what powder it is. Clean if changing bullets too.
I already knew the answer. I just wanted to get you guys chattering. But i will say I did shot the cfe223 first and then the Benchmark and the groups where the same as I usually been getting. made no difference at 200 yards from my gun. HUMMMM

I will add one more comment about A2230 powder in a 222 Rem. I tried it after cleaning the barrel really good and by one manual I looked at it showed I think in Nosler that a 40 bullet and 24.5 of A2230 was the best load in a 222 so I tried it set the bullets at .010 of the lands and had been only neck sized with a Lee Collet die. All I can say was first shot high 11/2" to the left for a fouling shot then the next 4 all in one hole about 1/2 of a penny. then one final shot kicked about 3/4" out of the group at 200 yards a puff of wind came up. all with and really old 222 / 722 Remington all beat up over time and will still outshoot all 223 rifles I have that is a fact. IMHO I still say as many older shooters say I'll take a 222 any day over a 223....
