What's the difference between these two powders (cfe 223 vs cfe 223 black) for reloading! .223 and 6 BR.

Thanks for your time!

Need to refer to loading manuals but very little crossover between the two powders.
For 222 REM 50gr

HodgdonCFE 223 Buy now 0.224"2.130"24.12,97035,200 PSI26.23,26847,600 PSI
HodgdonCFE BLK Buy now 0.224"2.130"15.82,74441,500 PSI18.73,02649,400 PSI

Not what you asked for but look at the difference in charges. Not anywhere near the same powder.
Compare to 223, 50 gr

CFE black is for the ultra light bullets in 223 and Mainly the 300 blackout it's a fast burning powder be careful mainly for str walled cases or blackouts rank is at 70 of 163 slow to fast

use your burn rate color chart CFE Black is down there at the upper end of fast burning powders, be careful it has about 40 powders between it and CFE223 so that says to me it's fast

I tried some of the CFE BLK in a 7.62X39 18" AR. 123gr
Got lots of speed. Not up to the book speed, but fast. Need more work

There is no such thing as "CFE 223 BLACK".

It's simply "CFE BLK" and was designed for the .300 Blackout. It is similar to H110 magnum pistol powder.

Thought I had a coma in there to separate the two...yes I know that black and 223 are different, and probably most on here do...new handloaders may not be aware,

Although CFE Black was designed for the 300BO, it is a second choice powder with lower velocity then several other popular powders. For instance H110/HP38 is a better performing powder with both supersonic loads and subsonic loads and seems to be cleaner.

That said, CFE Black is the preferred powder for 300HAM'R. It should be noted that there can be noticeable difference in energy from one lot # to the next. When starting with a new lot # of CFE Black you might want to dial back your load recipe for safety and reconfirm velocities and pressure signs.
