CFE 223 in a 220 swift

Wondering if anyone has had any luck with CFE 223 powder in the 220 swift. Getting ready to go prairie dog shooting again and like the idea of the copper fouling eraser. I will be using 55 gr ballistic tips. My current load is 55 BT and RL15 powder. Shoots good but it would be nice to cut back on the copper fouling. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried it in a friend's M77 several years back behind 50g Vmax's. I don't recall the starting load used, but accuracy wasn't great & the velocity numbers were getting erratic as the charge weights were increased. Called it quits there & went with IMR 4064. You might try giving Hodgdon a call & see what they say.

Howdy !

You might want to try something like IMR4451, which has a burn rate very close to that of H4350.

IMR4451 includes a " copper fouling eliminator " ( https://imrpowder.com/imr-enduron-4451/ ),
and is comparatively temp change insensitive.

If you decide to go w/ a powder that is not advertised as specifically having a fouling eliminator,
you might want to try H4350 outright, or VV160... which is reported to be one of the " cooler burning " powders. VV160 shot very well in my 24" SS 1-14 .22-35 Remington wildcat ( 41.6gr VV160 under Hornady's .224" calibre 55SX SP ).

I had best results using FEDERAL Large Magnum Rifle Match primers, when shooting WW760, IMR4350, and VV160 in my wildcat.

IMR 4064 has been the go to powder for the Swift forever. There are some of the newer powders that should work also but I bet not CFE223.

Yea, I think the CFE223 is a little on the fast side for top velocities and accuracy in the mighty Swift. Too many other powders available, as the other guys have noted, to handicap the 220.
