Cerakoting rifle

Good Morning All
I will be attempting to Cerakote my first rifle. Should I cerakote the action and barrel assembled together or each individual part, receiver, lug, barrel and then assemble? Anyone with experience.

Morning muley, I am not a certified cerakote applicator nor do I paint for a living but what little cerakote I have done was with the action attached to the barrel. I think you would find it hard to do it separate. You would have to tape off the action where the barrel shoulder contacts the action face to the same diameter of your barrel. Then the same on the barrel tennon and shoulder. Not saying it isn't possible, but then once done you have to assemble and torque up the barrel already finished and try not to mess up the finish.

By any chance has anyone built their own oven for baking the cerakote and would they be willing to share share their construction method and plans? Wife really does not want me to use the kitchen oven 8)

One on the cleverest ideas for an cerakote curing oven that I've seen was made out a section of stove pipe mounted over a hot plate. Cheap and didn't take up a lot of room. I don't remember on which forum I saw it on or who made it.

I built my own using a Stack On safe I bought from Dick's, insulated it with 1" stiff foil face insulation then put 5/8 Fireboard on top of that. Used some Tile I had left over for the bottom and an oven element. My father helped me pick out the controller parts and we put her together. Works perfect and I do a fair share of Cerakoting.

I used an electric smoker with a section of stove pipe on top. Easy to control and will hold up to 360 constant temp. Barreled action goes in from the top. Small parts go in through the door. I can take a pic if necessary. Total cost about $125.

Chuck pictures that would be great as I already have a piece of stove pipe and a smoker. The stackon oven looks great also.

THANK YOU :D
