Cerakote suggestions

Hey guys, just got finished cerakoting my rifle; I did the stock(HS), the action, barrel and bottom metal. I was told by the one of the techs at Brownells to blast a 120 grit finish before painting, so I did; he said that 120 grit was needed for proper paint adhesion.

Well I'm not real excited about the final finish; its ok for a hunting gun which this one is but I'm looking for something a little better. I have several more rifles that I'm building and was wondering if anybody out there had success with a finer finish than 120? I was thinking about trying 220 and then 400. The product applied great had no problems there; I was using a DeVilbliss touch up gun. I have painted airplanes and cars with my equipment so I didn't expect any problems with this little project. any input is appreciated. have stuff in the oven now will try to post a pic or 2 when I'm finished. Matt

Well here's a little update for ya! Just got my stock outta the oven............you know those instructions that they give you that say 200 degrees F for wood and other "sensitive" material.......... well dont do it!! My HS stock started to crack and seperate form the bedding block on the ejection port side after about an hour and 10 minutes. I guess I'll have to completely rebed the rifle.......oh well back to the mill to cut all that out and start over again......had it loookinf good too. Just FYI Matt
