Central Indiana High-Power Rifle Shooters & Electronic Targets

Thought I'd share my experience with the Silver Mt. E Targets at Camp Atterbury this past weekend as they hosted a LR Regional Match.

This group of people have it together for sure. I got there early and helped set up the targets and it was fast, so fast infact Duabe (or however he spells it!!!) had me help him set up the flags. He had me trek thru the wet grass till my feet were sopping wet no doubt part of his strategy!!
Shawn gave us new guys instructions on how to set up our devices (phones or iPads) and log onto their system which again way easy peasy. On Sat we started a 3x1000 around 9am and it was basically over by 12:30-1:00.
There was not a single hiccup during the match and it went quick. Sunday's match was about the same with one glitch as one targets battery had died....a brief cease fire and in 5 min we were back up and running..... Again very quick!

Some things I observed with the targets...... After you fire you want to instantly look at your screen which is only normal but may take you away from your game, like follow through or watching conditions. I caught myself doing this and it cost me a few points. Shooting too fast, it's easy to do because it's an instant response, this could be good or bad!! Again this being my first time with them I wasn't familiar with all the functions available and I had to fumble around a bit which is why if you can get to a match that has these targets you should. One nice thing is you can save a pic of your targets and have them for future use....You can also see the speed of each shot at the target which can help identify and high or low shots that might have seemed out of place. It was a pleasure not going to the pits which only extends match time. All in all I think they will be a welcome addition as more and more clubs obtain them.

This was a great match & group of guys who made me feel at home even though they put the smack down on me!!
I will be back with drier feet!

I'm glad you had a good time a enjoyed yourself. I want to thank you, and Mark, for coming such a long way. We are constantly trying to improve and appreciate your feedback. As you stated, there is an adjustment period for the shooter and staff that runs these targets. Once the basics are learned by both an efficient match is only a few clicks away.
Dwayne AKA "Duabe" ;))

Keith glad you enjoyed your weekend and thank you for coming and hope to see you back soon. At our club our goal is to strive and run the best matches in the mid-west. Our next match is a 1200pt agg Mid-Range Regional on July 9th-10th.

Camp Atterbury is a great range with a great group of shooters! The Long Range Regional match was very well run and I really enjoyed the weekend. The electronic targets do take some getting used to, and I would strongly encourage everyone to take the opportunity CIHPRS offers to become familiar with them.

I started back to shooting at Camp Atterbury this year, after an absence of about 30 years. Did so solely out of curiousity of the electronic targets. It has been a learning experience for the shooter and as well as for Shawn and his dedicated crew in setting up targets and learning the ins and outs of WiFi and the receiving devices. This last weekend Regional match was by far the finest hour for this system. The targets were flawless, except for a brief cease fire to change batteries in one of the targets. It's pretty obvious that Shawn and his helpers have learned a lot about these targets over the last several months. One of the better features of this system, if you are watching your shots on a cell phone, is the option to take a screen shot of the completed target when finished, which shows each shot and value, velocity, and even the group size.
Anyone curious about e-targets, needs to shoot Atterbury. I promise you a unique experience, and a system that now seems to work as it should. Shawn is shooting a 2-day MidRange Regional July 9th and 10th. Let's all attend and give Atterbury the recoginition it deserves. You will not be disappointed. I am almost to the point now where I'd rather not shoot anywhere if I have to pull targets.

Did the target faces require changing at any time during the match?

No sir they did not

To save our X Ring (aiming point)
They had the acoustic centers dialed in and calculated for a 1moa lower impact...... So we were aiming center and shots showed up on center but impacts were actually 1 min lower because we took a minute off our rifles.

Targets looked like this... Some much better!! Lol

The acoustical center is approximately 10" below the center of the aiming black. So at 200yd it is 5MOA, 500yd it is 2MOA, etc. This keep the x/10 rings clean for f-class and the scope shooters in sling. The aiming centers have a lot of holes in them but haven't been refaced yet as the X/10 area is still clean.

Great idea I will pass that on at Ben Avery.
Glad to see SMT's are working well. They have been well received here and there are 2 more on order.

We have two on the way, hoping to get a third later this year... was planning on offsetting the acoustic vs. physical center on our 300 and 500yd targets... will have to rebuild the frames on our 600yd targets to accommodate as they are currently the regulation 72" x 72".

Glad to hear it's pretty nice down there. I've never competed but hoping to have my rifle finished in about 4 to 6 weeks. I'm just a couple hours north so I'll have to check the schedule to see what's going on later this summer.

I'm thinking about possibly adding a 3x1000 on Sunday July 24th if I can get a range date. Have a make-up course match scheduled for 7/17 but if there isn't any interest may turn that into a 3x1000 as I have Range 6 for that day.

That sounds great. Let me know when you are ready, i'll come out and help you break them in.
