Cataract surgery and shootin"

Can anyone tell me how cataract surgery is going to affect my ability to see the sights? I shoot IPSC pistol and F-Class. I know I will have to wear "reading glasses" for up close stuff.

There was an article by an eye doctor on the home page under either articles or the archive of the bulletins.I hope some one or he chimes in.

I just did a bing search on "cataract surgery shooting" and came up with some stuff. Here's a pretty good one

The m14forum has a whole section for vision.

Dear Racesnake,
If your experience is similar to mine, you will be elated with your cataract surgery. The clarity of your new vision can be beyond great. First of all your vision can be corrected to near 20/20. I had pop bottle corrective lenses before surgery and now have 20/20 and 20/15 vision. Second of all you will realize that you have been looking through lenses that are similar to an old yellowed piece of plastic. You will probably be able to see colors and detail as vivid as when you were young. I had given up on shooting some years ago because my quality of vision was so poor. Since my surgery, I have not only resumed shooting but have begun bench rest activities.
I can only hope your experience will be as good as mine.

Good luck with the surgery.
Bill

Thanks for the info gents. My surgery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. I have decided to go with the distance lenses. I'll give a post-op progress report later on, If anyone would be interested.

I had mine done in 2006. The Doctor ask what prescription I wanted. I indicated I wanted to see the farthest I could.

Takes longer for a haircut than replacing the lens once he starts.

Nice to be able to see better in my 60's than when i was a teenager.

First thing you will notice are how beautiful and bright the colors are. Of course not having to wear glasses is a plus. I have to use reading glasses.

As far as shooting I noticed more of difference with pistols than rifles. My point impact moved a little with pistols. Rifle no real difference.

Oh, you won't have the starbursts at night when you are driving.

You will love the new lens. The surgery is a piece of cake. At least it was for me. I had both eyes done 2 weeks apart.

You will do fine.

Mine was done this summer.

My 25 yard pistol groups improved from three to three and one half inches to two to two and one half inches.

Most amazing thing though is that I can actually see the scoring rings at 25 yards.
