cast bullets

What do you shoot cast bullets in and what molds do you use? I am wondering what brand ,accuracy, weight, and if you use the lee method or the others and if any molds cast better bullets or not.

I've shot cast bullets of one kind or and other for almost 30 years. I've shot slug guns, CBA and I still shoot single shots.

I'll need more info on what your looking for, hunting, target, cheap stooting. The kind of gun and caliber you'll be using and the velocity you want.

That said, the best casting and shooting molds molds (other than customs) are RCBS and SAECO. There are good lymams and Lee though.

I am looking for cheap shooting and hunting.Mainly hunting. 450 marlin, 500 s&w, and 357 mag. My dad gave me a 158 grain mold for .357, lee with gas check. :)

I'm currently casting with molds made by RCBS Lyman Lee and Saeco for production molds and Paul Jones, LBT, and NEI for custom molds and they all cast good bullets If you are looking for hunting bullets look at the LBT molds Veral Smith IMO makes the best molds out there for hunting bullets.

i have shot cast for 62 years and the current line of molds is better than any of the past except the Hensley and Gibbs

plinking, pistol Lyman/Rcbs are fine

target, Rcbs and Saeco LBt

Hunting Rcbs

The lee tumble lube bullets for pistol shooting are outstanding.I size them and tumble lube, let them dry overnight ,load them and shoot them.I have a 340 grain lee mold for 45-70,flat base that shoots outstanding.

Howdy !

No offense meant to this great website, but....

You may want to check out the " castboolits " website.

There, you will find a plethora of pertinent info.

When I've casted, I've used Lyman molds ( all in nominal
.357" calibre ), and a Lee furnace.

357Mag

I cast a bit myself, and use molds from Lee, Lyman and RCBS. Most any mold will make a decent bullet for general use. If your looking to get into the hobby to save money, go with Lee equipment and don't ever look back. It's affordable, good quality, works well and they have AWESOME customer service.

If you don't have any equipment yet and are looking to get yourself set-up to cast in the calibers listed, shoot me a pm and I can go over the required equipment and give you an idea of what you will need and what works well for short money.

I started doing this to shoot more for less money back when I was a teen with just a little dough, and man did I ever get to shoot a lot! I scrounged lead, brass and anything else I needed and spent all my money on powder, primers and propane! But I would be off blasting rounds while my friends were looking at their empty boxes of factory ammo, wondering where all mine came from.

It's a really fun hobby that will let you shoot a lot for very little money. If you can get free lead, than all you really need are primers and powder, as you can usually scrounge once fired brass for free or very little money as well, and even if you buy it new, it will last a long time with cast bullet loads.

KAL Moulds.....not cheap but precision made and deliver absolutely round bullets! Never had much luck with cheap moulds....especially when trying to hit a 20" 10 ring from 1000 yards! All those others may be good for plinking with revolvers, etc. but IMO....that's about all!!
