Cases getting stuck in die?

Ok so getting my friend set up to reload. Using LC12/13/14 brass. Lee FL sizing die. Rock Chucker press.
Hornady One Shot spray lube.

Have used this case lube in my 308 for several hundred cases with no issue and better consistency in sizing. So now with his brass we keep getting stuck cases.

Nothing has changed in how I prep the brass or lube the cases.

Any thoughts or advice?

Stuck cases in my Forster CoAx and his Rock Chucker.

Not enough lube. Where did this brass originate from and what was it shot out of?

I use One Shot for all my case lube. Now and then I have stuck cases. It has always been that I didn't get a consistent coating on the cases. I fill a loading block and spray first from one direction, then turn it around and do the other. Sometimes I don't pay attention and neglect getting a few of the cases on both sides. It always happens on the first few. After that the die gets lubed and there isn't a problem. I can usually tell before I go all the way into the die and have learned to stop and relube.

Good luck,
YMMV,
Rick

A friend of mine just had the same issues. Ditch the spray lube until you season the die. Also if the brass was fired in something with a big chamber ie machine gun. Use a better lube until you get the brass brought back down. Then on the next loading cycle you may can bring back the spray lube. Matt

In my 40+ years of reloading I've stuck maybe 6 or 8 cases in FL dies. Each and every time I had a stuck case Hornady One Shot Spray Lube was being used. I've sized thousands of cases with One Shot so it does work most of the time. Why does it sometimes stick? I don't know for sure. I have a theory that maybe not letting the lube completely dry on the case before sizing might be a factor. Certainly, an incomplete coating would likely cause trouble. However, I've gone back to using another product and have not had another stuck case since. Vic

Dry time is required after aplication and prior to sizing. Also don't forget to coat the inside of the die and let sit prior to sizing. If you already new this sorry for barging in. :-\

I have never had a stuck case using:

I will look into it further. Like I said I know about spraying all sides of cases and letting them sit for about 2 minutes to let the lube work. I spray in die first and let dry while prepping the brass to size

This is 1x fired 5.56 range brass. Being sized and prepped for AR reloading.

The few times this has happened the case rim just smashes and looks like it was soft. And brass stays in die. Proper shell holder is being used

I will try the RCBS lube that he has and also try my imperial lube I have on hand

Once you have a stuck case in a die, there could be "scuffing" on the inside of the die walls. If that's what has happened, cases will get stuck a lot easier unless you re-polish the inside of the die. An old guy from Hornady once told me that I could send it in to them but all they do is use some Flitz metal polish and spin it on a rag wrapped around a brush to polish the scuffing out. I did it myself and had no further issue with sticking or stuck cases.
Best Wishes

My experience with that spray stuff was that if the cases were not being sized too much and you followed the directions it did the job..

However in this instance being that he us using range brass that could be grossly oversized in all aspects I would put the spray lube aside and use something designed for extreme pressure situations such as imperial wax or the rcbs-2 lube.

I would be willing to bet that not all the cases are even to the same dimension after sizing if they are oversized to the point their getting stuck.

Good luck.

I have never used Hornaday One Shot, have heard and read this too may times to try it. Imperial Wax or Frankford Lube Spray, have never stuck a case.

i found a recipe for a case lube using anhydrous lanolin and ATF with a touch of 10w-30. rub it on with fingers and never come close to sticking a case..not even a squeek. a bit messy but when you wipe it off you clean the case.

Many years with RCBS-2.On a pad, a bit messy, but no stuck cases. Easier to wash my hands than yank a stuck case.

Sized about 300 cases today with my friend on his set up. But we switched to RCBS lube and no issues. Smooth as butter and consistent sizing

Thanks for input

I like the one shot , I'll lay about 9 pieces 7mm-08 on the hornady lube pad shake can spray and roll the caes's over spray again and then roll them back n fourth (ever a stuck case yet) I did a small few befor I changed to doing it this way. Letting it dry ? I thought it's a wet lube .
