Case necks being crushed when using a .323 bushing

Poor Shot 65

Silver $$ Contributor
A quick question to the people shooting 30BR. I have been using a Whidden .324 bushing to size my necks without any issues (.003 neck tension). I wanted to try and get a little more neck tension (.004) so I switched to a Whidden .323 bushing and my necks are being crushed.

What do others do ? What neck tension do you look for on a 30BR ? Any advice here ?

Thanks

Adam

Adam what is the wall thickness of your brass?
I only ask cuz I'm using a 329-331 size bushing in my 06' with turned lapua brass.

Can you hear the bushing rattle in the die? I ask because it looks like the edge of the bushing is hitting the case edge like the case is entering the bushing off center. Also are you using a Whidden die?

Brass thickness is .0095"

Neck size for the chamber is .330

The die is Whidden and I have backed off the die plug 1/4 turn so that I can hear the bushing rattle.

As far as I can tell the .323 bushing ... looks to be a .3205.

That sure looks like the problem.

This is the second issue that I have had with the 30BR related dies / bushings from Whidden. Just sent them an email and I am sure that they will make it right.

What neck tension are you guys using ?

Diameter of loaded round?
.327?

Adam I run the same .330" chamber and turn to .010" and use a .325 bushing. Your brass is running .0005" under mine which should give you a .267" loaded diameter so .324 bushing will give .002-003". Notice I estimated the bullet tension. It's not a perfect measurement to go by. It all depends on brass springback. Measure that bushing from the other end. If Whidden makes their bushings tapered it should measure closer to the .323 on the other end.

I would guess that you've annealed that brass, perhaps too much - it looks like the shoulder is dead soft.

Do Whidden bushings have a chamfer only on one side? It's worth looking to see if one side is more "approachable."

I think Lc meant your loaded round should read .3275 not .267

325 or 327 bushing here.
328 loaded round.
330 chamber neck.

DJ turned it. I think oo95 ...
