case holder for wilson trimmer... dasher?

Question.... Once you have fireformed your Dasher brass....you'll need to trim at some point. What are you using to hold the case?? Using a Wilson trimmer. Are you using a 6br fired case holder?? How often do you normally trim ??
Thx again,
Rmist

I bought the L.E. Wilson Trimmer Case Holder 6mm Dasher from Midway. It states it's only for fired cases, although I really do not see why or actually how they can only fit fired cases.

Thank you for the replies. That will work since I have the BR case holder already.
Thanx again

Edit: Jim Ohara posted this...No it doesn't work, Dasher is an improved case the shoulder is .460+. Run a Dasher reamer in and open it up no big deal…….. jim

So I'll get another one...only 11 bucs

Taltom,
It has to do with a change in body taper on the cartridge case after it is fired. .223 cartridge case body taper doesn't change when fired so trimmer case holder will do both new and fired. .308 has the body taper change when fired so the NEW trimmer case holder is for new "out of the box brass only. The fired is for fired sized or fired un-sized brass. Hope this helps.

I have used the BR Case holder with my Dasher brass. Based on comments in this thread I need to check it on a concentricity gauge to ensure I'm not trimming cockeyed.

The shoulder on fired dashers doesn't let come out of the case holder enough, even the factory Dasher case holder is tight. Best to just run a chamber reamer in and open it a little. Maybe if you trim after you size they may work good enough but mine the shoulder never came out. Could just be a factory tolerance ………. jim

Just ran the BR fired and unfired holders on my concentricity gauge with a couple pieces of fired Dasher brass. The brass without the holder reads straight on the gauge. With the holder i did get some flux with conentricity. With that said, I will be buying a Dasher case holder (didn't know they were made, should have known better).

Like my signature says. I learn something new here everyday.

Good Shooting.

Rich,
Because you are holding the case the case head in a Brown & Sharpe type collet and using a pilot mounted on the cutter so the case is suspended between the two . You can get case mouths that are cut at an angle if the case head is not seated flush in the rear collet and is crooked or if they have a deformity ( ejector mark etc) on the case head. Because the L.E.Wilson case holders support the whole case body and use no pilots or collets and the cutter face is large enough to "sweep" the while case mouth it trims very flush. The hole through the case holder may not be drilled exactly in the center and this is why the runout. Because the cutter sweeps the whole case mouth its not an issue. Hope this helps!
