case feeder size forSkips case annealer

I am in the process of building a Skips style case annealer and was wondering what is the size of the UHMW for the case feeder? Also what is the best source to get the UHMW? I would not want to buy a long piece just to use a few inches. If any one has some that they would sell, it would be greatly appreciated. Ron

Engineering supply houses or Ebay. I'm in the process of building one myself.

Delrin or any other engineering plastic would work fine also.

Just finished building two. I used 2" uhmv from online metals $13 for a foot.
Also got aluminium bar stock and angle for the build from them.

You need anything 'bout 2 inches in diameter. It doesn't get hot so it can be almost any material, even wood. Metal would work too. It would be dead simple to make if you have a lathe. You need something pretty round and that's why most guys use some kind of manufactured plastic rod, nylon or whatever you can find. I got a 12" piece of Delrin on Ebay.

I just used a 2" dia. wood dowel (closet rod I think) I picked up from Lowe's or Home depot (can't remember which). section was ~ 2' long and cheap! Works great.

one caution when making "Skip's" design. When you make the hopper section on top of the case feeder roller, make sure your spacing does not create a "roman arch" or the cases will not drop into the case feeder (and it looked so good until I found that out!).

Do you have a pic of what you mean by the arch?

Dusty, it's what RW above said. if you get the spacing just right (like I lucked into) the cases will sort of lock in the semi-circular form and ride just above the case feed roll and then stick there. I just had to widen the feed sides out a little - not a big problem, just an aggravation that the engineer in me did not think of it before I did it.
