Carlson's Choke Tubes

I got some good advice on this forum about how to get started choosing some chokes for my new shotgun, but I had no idea there would be so many options. I decided to stick with Carlson's brand because they have a good reputation, are reasonably priced, and are readily available. However, even within the brand, there are lots of options.

For the turkey choke, I like the Long Beard (for use with Winchester's ammo with the same name).

For pheasant, duck, and goose, I don't want to be restricted to a single variety of ammo, so I was looking at either the Cremator or White Wing Dove. Does anyone have experience with either of these two choke types? Cremator is very popular, but White Wing Dove seems to be more tolerant of virtually anything between lead and TSS. I can't afford to try 10 types of ammo through ten brands of chokes, so I need a starting point to see how the gun patterns. Thanks all.

You have to pattern a particular choke to see how effective it is, no way around this. Also, keep the plastic wad material out of your chokes for best patterns.

this product is the best that I have ever seen for keeping shotgun barrels clean of powder and plastic, bar none...quick and effective. Marines adopted the product.

Thanks for the product recommendation. It took me a while to find carbon and copper removal products that I liked for my rifles, so it's nice to have a starting point for the shotgun. I decided on Carlson's Long Beard XR for my turkey choke, and Carlson's Cremator (non-ported) for my LM and IM chokes. Going to try a mix of Winchester and Federal shells to see what the gun likes.

Dont forget to try the chokes that came with your gun too. I found my modified choke patterned better than the expensive one i bought just for my intended loads!
You may just find acceptable results for Zero dollars spent!
