carbon ring tool

Does anyone make a tool to address the carbon ring issue. I just got my first in the dasher. I did the JB paste method in the throat area and got it to come back, thanks goodness as it was my best shooting barrel. I have heard of people taking a aluminum arrow shaft and putting a taper on it and notching it to clean. any thoughts on how well this might work.

That is what i use on the carbon at the end of the chamber………. a XX 75 1816 arrow turned to about a .001 smaller than the neck…….. jim

Thanks Jim, This is what I needed to know. I'll have to pilfer through my son's shafts, surely he won't miss just one if he has got the right size. I really don't know why it got so bad. My brass Is 1.550 trim and chamber is 1.560 and I do go after the carbon first.

Are you sure the chamber is 1.560" or you are going off the print?
I don't trust reamer prints.

Hello Erik, I did verify my reamer chamber length when the barrel was new with a modified brass with the pilot and calipers at 1.560 as my other barrels run. I check all my barrels for this before firing. This barrel right at 300 round count. I was running a product in this barrel that is graphite and alcohol based on final swab after cleaning, Dunno maybe this was the issue. I'm thinking there could be a market for a pilot cleaning tool specific for this task on routine cleaning but then again I guess I need to look at my cleaning regiment. Just never had this before in several other barrels. Thanks for the reply.

My chamber is select 1.560 and it is 1.564 but the diameter is what you need, mine is .266. I turn the 1816 down to .265+ and for a length of .400, this gives me enough to face it off once in a while. I use Kroil on it to lube it a little. I just cut the shaft in half to start with and it will make two. Take a wood 1/2" dowel rod and make a handle and epoxy it on. It doesn't mark anything and it keeps the carbon in check and it doesn't hurt the throat like spinning a brush on it…….. jim
