Solvents alone don't remove my carbon ring. Spinning (B&D variable speed drill) an aluminum cleaning rod and nylon brush with JB and occ a bronze one will remove the ring nicely (Hawkeye verified) , but guessing how far to insert the cleaning rod bothers me as I don't like the idea of a spinning brush with JB in my bore. If I had a stop in the bore that allowed the brush to touch it and have it's bristles right at the ring, I would feel safer. I'v done this by chambering a modified case with Sinclairs chamber length guage, then inserting a dowel from the muzzle to touch the end of the guage. Remove the dowel the length of the non bristle part of the brush and mark it and adding a device to prevent the dowel from going into the bore. I rest the end of the dowel against something to prevent it moving out of the bore, remove the modified case, then insert the rod and brush and spin as long as needed knowing the brush is not touching the bore. The dowel can be cut flush with the barrel and held securely with a tight muzzle protector. The photos demonstrate the idea.
