carbon fiber wrapped barrels

Has anyone tried these in a benchrest or high precision rig? Or is the lack of weight up front an issue in using these for those kind of rigs?

I know cost is an issue for one……, just wondering if there could be any sort of precision benefit from the deadened harmonics, say combined with an aluminum action?

don’t flame me, I am new to the benchrest/competition high precision game and just curious what the thoughts are.

Nobody uses them because they are way too expensive to use as a consumable in a competition environment. For a hunting gun only shot a few rounds a year they are fine for that. The other reason, and the most important one, is they dont win. If they won but only lasted half as long and cost 6x as much youd still see them on every gun on the line.

Ahhh, but they don't win because the barrel itself isn't capable?

Or nobody has spent the time & resources to find out?

Lets face it, while welcoming at the tables behind the firing line, match shooters are VERY opinionated as far as equipment goes.

I'm with Dusty. Won't be used unless someone wins with one. Would be a weight saver but I prefer the weight of a match barrel over other rifle components.

I do believe cost is the biggest concern, especially for those that go
thru a few barrels a year. I can't say either way other than, you don't
see them on the line. as a matter of fact, I've only seen two period
since they first were available and one was just a show piece.....Ya' know
though, a 24" wrapped barrel about 1.375" thick ought to be pretty dead
on harmonics ??......Or not !!
