Carbon Fiber Wrapped Barrel and Cerekote

Question for the Cerekoters out there.
Can the Carbon Fiber Barrels be Cerekoted ? or have a Baked-on finish applied ?
I know you can paint anything these days with the modern paint choices.
Just haven't seen a Carbon Wrapped Barrel Done.

Wouldn't that interfere with its main purpose
What I understand is the fiber is laid with the fiber in a perpendicular from barrel way to help relieve heat quickly.
Painting or cerekoating would cap it off wouldn't it.
And render it useless other then the lighter weight benefit.
I could be wrong
Just my thoughts

In regards to Proof barrels, they are cerakoted all the time. Mainly the stainless chamber area, but the whole barrel goes into the oven just the same.

you will need to tape off the carbon fiber when you bead blast the barrel for the cerakote to adhere to. if you don't tape it off the bead blast will blast the carbon away. Ive cerakoted them with no problem. 27999956_1319018318202778_1591920171_o.jpg

Bead blast? or aluminum oxide blast....... Cerakote stats not to bead blast them and to use aluminum oxide because it etches the metal. Do you get good results bead blasting the metal before coating them?

The best upgrade I got for cerakoting so far was a pneumatic paint shaker from harbor freight for 120 bucks. It mixes it up better in 5 minutes than me doing it manually for 20 minutes. I generally let it mix it up for 10-15 minutes while I'm prepping everything for cerakote. Its paid for itself since I can be doing other things while the paint is getting mixed.

I recently had a rifle built using a Proof barrel. I spoke with someone from Proof who strong advise against painting (cerakoting) the carbon fiber.

Good luck

I talked to them and several other people who have done it and they didn't have any problems. So I went ahead and started cerakoting them. Haven't had a problem yet. Done a dozen or so in the last couple months. Most of what I chamber and cerakote is all steel barrels.

Is he asking about coating the exposed steel or the actual carbon fiber wrap? I see nothing wrong with blasting and coating the exposed steel parts of the barrel, But I wouldn't coat the carbon fiber..... That's why you bought an expensive carbon fiber barrel to show that thing off

Coating the carbon fiber with a clear Cerakote finish is a smart move. You want/need the UV protection on carbon fiber.
