Carbon Fiber Stocks?

Any one use them for bench rest or PRS shooting? How do the compare to other stocks? Strength? Warpage? Flex? Looking at one on a RimX 22

The advantage to carbon fiber stocks is significant weight reduction while still being rigid. The carbon fiber shell (hollow in middle) is superior in strength and rigidity to a similar conventional polymer stock. It works great for a field rifle that will be carried for long periods of time, but trade-off is the recoil is full price.

Stocks designed for Benchrest, PRS, long range shooting competition shooting are focused on rigidity, stability, balance. Weight is the advantage to offset recoil and provides stability and balance. Winners in these competitions are using stocks and chassis in the 5-7 lbs range with heavy barrels and then adding weights, arcs rails, etc. Even in PRS shooting (precision run-n-gun) the rifles in the sportsman division are limited to #13, but other divisions are #18-#25.

There are competition stocks that incorporate carbon fiber as a component in the stock construction, but not solely carbon fiber. Even with a carbon fiber shell there needs to be some form of metal chassis to anchor the action and provide additional rigidity in the forearm to support the front rest/bipod and provide attachment points for components, and a filler to dampen the stock.

Most competition rimfire rifles are using the same chassis/stocks used for centerfire rifles. Go check out “Pursuit of Accuracy” on YouTube. His channel is dedicated to 22lr competition and features all types of rifles, stocks, and setups.

For bench rest shooting, the heavier the better. I love carbon fiber for hunting stock purposes, but I don't see the reason to use it for bench rest.
If you are talking about IBS or NBRSA shooting, weight of the stock depends on which weight class you want to build to...Hunter(max 10#), LV or HV...10 1/2 and 13 1/2 respectively.
