Carbide Inside Neck Sizing Button?

Another thought... are carbide inside of the neck sizing buttons good to have or unnecessary?

If you use bushing dies, then no expander is needed - if you use standard sizing dies, then they are neat!

If you have used carbide neck sizing bushings, you would want to throw your steel buttons away.

I used the carbide inside neck sizing button for years in my FL dies but use a o ring under the spindle assy and the die it self..I have changed that now..I pulled the sizing button assy and use a Sinclair NT mandel to size inside the neck..I found that I get a better more constant feel when I seat the bullets..just a thought..coues52

Just put the carbide button in my Redding 223 die last week, but haven't compared runout with and without yet. Doesn't feel any smoother though. Haven't compared on concentricity gauge yet. May not bother as I just ordered a Lee neck collet die and Redding body sizer. After reading some old threads here and talking with Boyd Allen, I am taking a different approach all together.

I did read in Glenn Zedekirs book, "Competition Reloading", that polishing the steel expander was a good way to go, maybe better than the carbide. A big culprit of expander induced runout also stems (pun intended) from the expander not being in dead center of die. And mine in fact did wobble a bit on its way in and out, as I screwed it. Glenn said to send it back for a straight one in his book.

Also said to run shell holder with brass case up, then secure expander to help ensure its locked down on center. Something to that effect. Like I said, read it a bit too late to help me, likely selling my Redding deluxe 3 die set. From what I've gathered, which isn't much, expander balls are bad juju, irregardless their composition.

That's why I use no buttons, just the correct size carbide neck bushing.
