Car wash ?

In an automated car wash...

Soft brushes swirl providing mechanical cleaning action while soapy water is sprayed on the car. Does a decent job and the damage rate is slight enough that they keep building more of them.

Wonder if anyone has done something similar with a rifle barrel ?

Continuous spray of solvent into barrel from the breach end with it draining out the muzzle while a continuous full-barrel-length soft brush swirls in the barrel driven by an electric hand drill.

Who wants to be the first ?

Well, a car wash is removing road dirt and grit from smooth painted surfaces. A gun bore has the by products of the ignition process blasted into the grooves by a combination of heat and pressure. These two environments are worlds apart.

Lou hit the nail on the head with that one but if you want it as good as it can get --- use a Iosso bush with Iosso Paste and it will be sparkling clean.

One reason I do not use car washes with brushes -- my truck is white and too tall to fit into most of them but the SLK 55 is black and will show a swirl even with a microfiber towel on a dry surface with ANY dust on it. Spent a lot of time with the Show Car Glaze getting rid of the tiny ones!

Hate it when that happens!!

My AMG is hand washed with using a micro fiber cloth. Then use treated soft water,Mr. Clean System for the rinse water) and a power blower to remove all remaining water. Can go into detail about the wheels and the Mothers Billet polish for the metal and even the billet door handles and fuel door on my truck.

I have used most every wax known over the years, used to show my bike and it had a 9 gallon tank which had to look good) and currently using NXT 2.0,on both MB's the Lexus and my truck) which gives the best protection and shine IMHO. When fine swirls appear, any dust while using car covers in the garage will even cause this) the Show Car Glaze or Ultra Cut will take care of it.

Anyone who has seen my truck at a match or knows me will tell you it is seldom dirty and I drive it off road all of the time. The underside on the other hand is a little worn but hey it is a 4wd.

I hate dirty or neglected vehicles--why bother to have nice ones if you don't take care of them?

If you want to get rid of the swirls on that MB, try Menzerna. Same stuff they use in their factory on the new hard clear coat finishes. Removes to 3000 grit.

Will look into that----not something I am familiar with. Cool thanks.

My poor truck lives a hard life - fresh brush scratches nearly every other week, dents from kicking up logs, pounding through deep snow, mud, & rocks. Dead deer & other game bleeding all over the pickup bed... Loads of lumber, sand and gravel being hauled around... I'm afraid it doesn't look all that pristine anymore... But I keep the mechanical side of it as squared away as possible. :D Poor ol' truck. I think it got washed three or four times so far this year. Might get another. Probably not...

Still - I'm not willing to "car wash" the inside of my Krieger barrel... Maybe someone else will, and then tell us about it??? I'd rather learn on your custom barrel than mine.

Regards, Guy

Well Mr. Slowpoke, my old truck has 222,000 miles on it and gets extremely excellent mechanical care. I use it though, hunting scratches, a few dents in the bed from carrying all kinds of stuff, but it still has the original brakes on it. I have replaced the water pump. alternator, and RF hub bearing assembly. My little rice burner has 110,000 miles on it and has had a tuneup and a timing belt service. It has no dents or scratches, but goes to the local carwash. My wife's SUV has 98,000 on it and it is spotless. I put an A/C compressor and kit on it and a couple brake jobs. Our Kubota RTV900 has 220hrs. on it and has had a couple oil changes and has been rolled, sunk in our lake here at the house, and has a couple dents and a lot of scratches.
If I ever move to your neighborhood, I might have to change my ways.
I do scrub my own barrels.
